What exactly is Anki?

Anki is a flashcard application that helps you review information over time. Revision Vault provides study decks that you can import into Anki, so you can spend less time creating cards from scratch.

Flashcards

Each card presents a prompt, question, or clue. Try to recall the answer before revealing it.

Spaced repetition

Anki schedules reviews based on your answers and settings, helping you revisit information over time.

Daily reviews

Open Anki, complete your scheduled reviews, and keep returning to your cards regularly.

Set up your deck, step by step.

Keep your downloaded files nearby and work through the instructions in order. The most important part is selecting the appropriate import options when they are available.

01

Purchase your deck

Browse the available Revision Vault decks and select the resource you need for your exam.

  • Read the product description before purchasing.
  • Check the included content and compatibility details.
  • Complete checkout and keep your order confirmation.
Tip: Start with one subject if you are new to Anki. You can add more decks as your routine develops.
02

Download your files

After purchasing, download the files provided with your order. Depending on the product, you may receive an Anki package directly or a ZIP archive containing the package and related files.

  • Save the download somewhere easy to find.
  • Wait until the download finishes completely.
  • Keep the original downloaded file as a backup.
Look for: A file ending in .apkg, or a .zip file that contains the deck package.
03

Unzip the download, if needed

If your download is a ZIP archive, extract it before importing the deck. If you already have the .apkg file, you can move to the next step.

  • Windows: Right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All.
  • Mac: Double-click the ZIP to extract it.
  • Mobile: Use your device's file manager or archive tool if needed.

Open the extracted folder and locate the .apkg file. Keep any accompanying files until you have completed the import and verification.

Important: Do not try to import the ZIP itself unless the supplied instructions specifically tell you to do so.
04

Import into Anki

Open the Anki desktop application and import the supplied .apkg file. When the import dialog shows the following options, make sure both are selected.

Import with media

Select this option to include the media supplied with the deck, such as images and audio, where supported.

Import presets

Select this option to import the supplied study presets or settings when they are included in the package and supported by your Anki version.

  1. Launch Anki on your computer.
  2. Open the import option and choose your .apkg file.
  3. Review the import dialog and select both options above when available.
  4. Complete the import and wait for it to finish.
Please note: The checkmarks above are a visual reminder, not live controls. Actual option names, locations, and availability can vary by Anki version and package. If an option is not shown, check the instructions for your version and the supplied deck.

Check media & presets

Before you begin studying, confirm that the deck and its supplied settings have imported correctly.

Verify media

Open a few cards and check that included images, audio, and other media display or play correctly.

Verify presets

Check that the intended options preset is available and that the deck is assigned to the correct preset, if one was supplied.

Preview your cards

Browse a few cards to confirm that questions, answers, formatting, and any included media appear correctly.

Start reviewing

Once everything looks right, begin your reviews and follow your study schedule.

REMEMBER

During import, select Import with media and Import presets when these options are available. Then verify your media and study settings before starting your reviews.

Think first.
Reveal second.

This is the basic flashcard workflow. Read the question, try to recall the answer without looking, and then reveal it to check yourself.

The sample below is interactive. Try it before opening your imported deck.

SAMPLE CARD QUESTION 1 OF 3
QUESTION

What is the capital of Assam?

Try to recall the answer before revealing it.

How to make your deck work for you.

Importing the deck is only the beginning. A steady review habit is what turns your cards into a useful part of exam preparation.

STEP 01

Recall actively

Try to answer each question from memory before revealing the answer. Do not turn every review into passive reading.

STEP 02

Review consistently

Open Anki regularly and complete your scheduled reviews. Short, consistent sessions are easier to sustain.

STEP 03

Answer honestly

Use the answer buttons according to how well you recalled the card. Accurate responses help Anki schedule reviews appropriately.

Keep in mind: Anki schedules cards using its review system and your settings. It supports your preparation, but it does not replace understanding concepts, solving questions, or revising the wider syllabus.

A few things to know.

What you need

  • Anki installed on a compatible device.
  • Enough storage for the deck and its included media.
  • A little time for setup and daily reviews.

  • Follow the instructions supplied with your deck.

Stuck on something?

Here are a few common setup questions to help you get moving.

Do I need to create every flashcard myself?

No. The purpose of a Revision Vault deck is to provide prepared study cards. Import the supplied package into Anki and review the cards included in your purchase.

Why did I receive a ZIP file?

A ZIP file is an archive that can contain one or more files. Extract it first, then locate the supplied .apkg file and import that into Anki.

What if I do not see “Import with media”?

Import options vary by Anki version and package type. Check that you are using the intended import workflow and consult the instructions for your version. After import, open several cards to verify that the included media works.

What if I do not see “Import presets”?

The option may not appear in every version or for every package. Check the deck instructions and your Anki version. After importing, inspect the available options presets and confirm the deck is using the intended settings, if supplied.

My images or audio are missing. What should I do?

First, confirm that you imported the intended package and selected the media option if it was available. Reopen a few cards to check whether the problem affects the whole deck. If the media is still missing, contact Revision Vault with your order details and a description of the issue.

Can I use Anki on my phone?

Anki has desktop and mobile options, but availability, setup, and syncing differ by platform. For the most reliable initial import and verification of supplied settings, follow the product instructions and use the supported workflow for your device.

Do I need to study for hours every day?

Not necessarily. Start with a manageable routine and complete your scheduled reviews consistently. Adjust your workload to your exam timeline, syllabus, and available study time.

Your next revision session starts here.

Choose a subject, import your deck carefully, verify your setup, and start building a review habit that fits your preparation.
